Mercy was denied a new trial, and the hospital system will not be able to spread the awarded payments out over decades, as it initially proposed. Instead payment of medical damages periodically over many years was found by the Missouri Supreme Court to be disallowed. This is because that method added another layer of discounting that reduced the value of the award.
